Homestead Exemption
CALLING ALL HOMEOWNERS! If you have lived in your home since January 1st of the current year, you are eligible to apply for homestead exemption. This program can help reduce the property taxes you pay on your primary residence, saving you money each year. It’s the single BEST thing you can do to reduce your property taxes while you live in the home as your primary residence.
For example, if you purchased your home on September 20th of last year, you are elligible to apply since you owned the home on January 1st for the year. You only have to apply one time and the exemption will stay until you sell your property or until you claim another home as your primary residence.
What is Homestead Exemption? Homestead Exemption is a legal provision that allows homeowners to shield a portion of their home's value from property taxes. In North Georgia, this exemption can lead to significant savings on your annual property tax bill.
DEADLINE IS BEFORE APRIL 1st! Mark your calendar! Each county does this a little differently, so check with your residing County’s website for more information on applying for Homestead Exemption through the links below.
